The elm platters are for food use. They are made from off-cuts, left over from Anna's Furniture projects and squirrelled away for later.
All hardwoods are locally sourced from Scottish sawmills that supply hardwood from sustainable woodlands.
Drinks and food serving platters with a curved cut cut away at each end to help assist with lifting off a table, holes are for hanging up the platter away in your kitchen on a peg and also assist with lifting.
Food safe finish is a clear food grade mineral oil. We use a thin grade of oil to allow it to soak into bare timber which then protects it against water splashes etc... whilst not tainting or affecting food in any way. (Chestnut products - Food finish oil)
Depending on the way the item is used it might be necessary to top-up the finish, especially if it is washed regularly.
Any spillages should be cleaned up with kitchen roll or a damp cloth. Do not wipe with a wringing wet cloth, put in a dishwasher or a basin of water.
Hardwoods are a natural material. Wood products naturally will move, shrink, change colour and dry out over time.
